Russian MiG-31 shoot down supersonic cruise missile in stratosphere

MiG-31 crews located on Kamchatka held a tactical flight exercise on interception of the cruise missile with combat firing in stratosphere. The exercise was held on the eve of the Day of Naval Aviation.

The missile was launched from the from marine carrier in the Sea of Okhotsk. It was flying at an altitude of more than 12 kilometres at a speed three times the speed of sound.

A wing of alerted MiG-31 fighter jets took off at the Elizovo airport in the Kamchatsky Krai and eliminated the target using air-air missiles.

Pilots practiced cooperation in pairs while performing the air defense tasks.
