On December 15, 2009 at 10:27 am, the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner took to the skies for the first time and launched a new era of aviation.
More than 12,000 employees and guests witnessed the start of a new era of air travel when the 787 Dreamliner took off on its maiden flight.
Maiden flight lasted for three hours, during which the 787 Chief Pilot, Mike Carriker, and Capt. Randy Neville, tested the airplaneās systems and structures.
A flight test program continued in the upcoming months by five other Dreamliners, leading to first delivery to customer ANA in 2011.
Since the program started in 2007, Boeing has received 1,487 orders for Dreamliners. Of this total, it has delivered 918 airplanes.
