Chinese Air Force Conducts Drills In South China Sea

Chinese Air Force (People’s Liberation Army Air Force) said it had dispatched H-6K bombers as well as Sukhoi Su-30 and Su-35 fighters with other types of aircraft, to perform the combat training missions in an unspecified area of the South China Sea and through the Miyako Strait between Okinawa and Miyako Island.

Strategic bomber H-6K has helped boost the long-range strike capabilities of China’s air force since its service.

The bomber has taken part in training in the Western Pacific Ocean, regular combat patrols in the South China Sea, guard patrols in East China Sea Air Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ), and joint naval and air force drills. The H-6K is the PLA’s most advanced bomber and is capable of carrying supersonic cruise missiles to make precision strikes against targets on land or sea. According to the available information the H-6K bomber has a flight range of about 3,500 kilometers.

Chinese Air Force is developing a new generation strategic bomber to replace existing fleet of H-6K bombers. It is expected that the new bomber will be capable for performing intercontinental missions, with a range of at least 6.200 miles (10.000 km).
