The Shah of Iran proudly stated that there was no better fighter than the F-14 to defend the Persian homeland.
After the Iranian Revolution, and the severance of diplomatic ties, the new Islamic government briefly considered selling the Tomcats back to the US.
However, when the Iran-Iraq War erupted in 1980, the Ayatollah realized the F-14 was the best tool against Iraqi MiGs and Sukhois.
Today, Iran is the only country in the world that still flies the F-14 Tomcat.
